Welcome to Virtuoso the literary festival of Pulse '07. Come; enter the sea of words, wit and wisdom. Swim with help of creativity and sail on the ship of your untapped abilities. So be prepared to realize the depth of genius. We invite you to be a part of this great bonanza.
1. The Quizzard

you have long taken for granted.

2. Dumb Charades (English and Hindi)
Silence propagates itself, and the longer talk has been suspended, the more
difficult it is to find anything to say.

So let your silence take on the action of propagating message and let your team
find the right words to say.
 
  Rules :
Three membered teams
Six teams in the finals
Entries will be restricted
Each member must act in at least one round in the finals
No letter / phonetic codes allowed
 

3. Hieroglyphics
Drawing is the art of honesty. There is no possibility of cheating. It is either good or bad.

So make your drawing a good one and quick so that your partner understands what you mean.
   
  Rules:
Three membered teams
Six teams in the finals
Entries will be restricted
Each member must draw on the board in at least one round in the finals
No alphanumeric codes permitted
Tally marks, mathematical and regular symbols allowed
 

4. Password (English and Hindi)
One forgets words as one forgets names. One'svocabulary needs constant fertilizing or it will die.

So try out this event to get your vocabulary back into use as a key in use never gets rusted.


Rules:
Two membered teams
Four clues are given for guessing a personality a place, a book, or a movie etc.
Marks for guessing clues as well as correct answer
Entries will be restricted
Six teams in the finals
Creative writing
 

5 Creative writing
Originality is the essence of true scholarship. Creativity is the soul of the true scholar.

Allow the true scholar in you to rise and expand your imagination and artistic literary elegance to create a never before piece.
   
  Rules:
Topic to be given on the spot
Time limit –one hour
Poetry and prose both permitted
 

6. Essay Writing (English and Hindi)
The skill of writing is to create a context in which other people can think.

Essay writing provides you the opportunity to play with words to not to only let you say but make others hear.
   
Topic - Democracy, though imperfect is the only just system possible.
 

7. Debate (English and Hindi)
Use soft words and hard arguments.

Enjoy arguments and debate. Don'texpect others just to sit and agree with you.
Every coin has two sides. They choose the other.
   
  Rules:
All entries must be as teams, each consisting of two speakers, one for and one
against the motion.
A maximum of two entries per college.
Speaking time: 50 minutes (4+1)
Two interjections after completion, no cross questions.
Best five teams make it to the finals.
One AIIMS team seeded to the finals.
 

8. Point Counter Point
   
The test of first –rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind
at the same time and still retain the ability to function

Here's the test for your intelligence to fight your own opinion.
   
  Rules:
Entries will be restricted.
Topics to be given on the spot.
Each speaker must speak on the given topic for 4 minutes: a minute for, 1 minute against followed by another minute for and another minute against
the topic.
 
Credit attached to mode of changeover
 

9. Elocution (Bilingual)
   
The prime purpose of eloquence is to keep other people from talking.

But we desire to let your talk.
   
  Rules:
Time limit –five minutes.
Contestants will have the choice of piece.
Three copies of the text of speech to be given to the judges.
Credit for choice of piece, memory and expressions.
Negative marks for histrionics, facial expressions allowed.
 

10. Extempore (English and Hindi)
   
The best ideas are common property.
– Seneca

But you have to search for them in three minutes.
   
  Rules:
Entries will be restricted.
Each speaker to be given a topic with three minutes to prepare and three minutes to speak.
No interjection.
 

11. Just a Minute
   
Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty
soon they keep popping out.
 
  Rules:
Eight speakers to go to the finals
Speakers will attempt to speak for a total of one minute without committing the following errors: stutter, stumble, pause, slang, abbreviation grammatical and logical errors, delayed start, out of context etc.
Points awarded for time spoken and correct interjection.
 

12. Press Conference (Bilingual)
   
Pretend that you are someone else for some time and let us see how good you are in
this attempt of yours at being famous. You can call it your shot at fame.
   
  Rules:
Entries restricted.
Each speaker will be assigned a real-life personality and will be given a situation in his or her “real life”.
Contestants will have to make a statement on it in a given time limit.
They will have to answer questions put to them by the audience.
Marks will be awarded for poise, presentation, wit and humour.
 

13 .Mock Parliament (Bilingual)
   
Reason has always existed, but not always in a reasonable form.

  Rules:
Entries will be restricted.
All entries must be as teams, each consisting of two speakers
Topics to be given on the spot.
 

14. Puzzler'sParadise
   
An old puzzle asks how a barometer can be used to measure the height of a building. Answers range from dropping the instrument from the top……….
A modern version of the puzzle asks how a personal computer can balance a checkbook. An elegant solution is to sell the machine and deposit the money.

So expect puzzles of all era in a wide range of from word games to sudoku.
Rules to be announced on the spot.

 

15. Literary Megamix
   
  Rules:
Two membered teams.
Prelims of written quiz-mix and one round each of dumb charades and hieroglyphics.
Six teams in the finals.
Rounds in the final: one round each of dumb charades, hieroglyphics, 20 questions, password and one special round.
